Walk in bathtubs were made with the purpose of the handicapped and physically disabled persons but its popularity is reaching till common masses also. These are the compact and versatile form of the bathtubs. Some of the people use it for their luxury purposes.
Walk in bathtubs generally contains a taller and narrower bathtub, so as to make the proper volume capacity of water. These tubs provide the bather a seat with different types of leverages to control as per the needs of the person. These bathtubs are mandatory to be taller as the seat provided in the bathtub needs to be completely filled up by water. Thus to maintain the proper volume of the water used the bathtubs are designed to be narrower.
These walk in bathtubs contain different types of controls such as therapeutic water jets which indirectly help in healing the body pains and aches. There is the facility of temperature adjustments in these bathtubs. The person can set the desired temperature of the water. It has its hand-held showers, which help people to bath properly and with luxury. Different facilities provided in these bathtubs are well arranged by the controls under the seat so that the elderly person gets the desired thing at the very time he wants.

The person on the wheelchair does not feel any trouble in going to the bath seat from his chair. These walk in tubs are specifically made to reach the ground so as to give no trouble to the people to come inside. There are two types of door openings in the walk in bathtubs which makes its difference. One is the inward-swinging bathtub and the other is the outward-swinging bathtub.
In the inward-swinging bathtub the door is made to open inside the walk in bathtub, while with outward-swinging bathtub the door is made to open outside the bathtub. Generally inward-swinging bathtubs are lesser in cost as compared to the outward-swinging bathtubs. The reason for more cost in outward-swinging bathtubs is the special mechanism for locking the door of bathtub. It needs special type of sealing to make it watertight, while the inward-swinging walk in bathtubs do not require any special sealing mechanism, as the weight of the water filled inside keeps it tight.
But generally it is troublesome for an elderly person to enter a inward-swinging walk in bathtub, as he/she needs to adjust to the seats before closing the door. Thus it creates the problem. Thus the outward swinging door walk in bathtubs is sometimes preferred though they may be more costly in comparison to inward-swinging walk in bathtubs.
